Independence had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Dalton Bulldogs on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Devils sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Anderson Jolliffe and Andrew Stamp were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jolliffe pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Stamp tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Jolliffe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Jolliffe went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Stamp went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Crooks, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Jenks, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Independence's record is now 19-4. As for Dalton, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-13.
