South Point is 0-6 against Rock Hill since April of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Pointers will challenge the Redmen at 5:30 p.m. South Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
South Point took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against East Carter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pointers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Raiders on Thursday. While the Pointers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kota Copley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Copley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alli Stidham, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Adyson Copley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
South Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rock Hill and Gallia Academy meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Redmen had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redmen have posted since May 1, 2024.
Isabelle Melvin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Rock Hill let Alaina Wilds and Charlee Long run wild. Wilds went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Long scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Samantha Bamer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
South Point is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Hill, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5.
Rock Hill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. It's a different story for Rock Hill, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain South Point's hitters?
South Point might still be hurting after the 15-4 loss they got from Rock Hill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pointers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
