The Powdersville Patriots waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Travelers Rest 67-53. Given Powdersville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Travelers Rest is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Powdersville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayden Assemian out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Assemian set a new season high mark in blocks with eight. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Sweet, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Powdersville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Travelers Rest, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Powdersville will head out on the road to face off against Belton-Honea Path at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Travelers Rest, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Broome at 7:30 p.m.
