Basketball Game Preview: Warren County Eagles vs. Northwest Halifax Vikings

Two dominant guards in Khalil Townsend and Daveion Richardson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Warren County Eagles will be playing at home against the Northwest Halifax Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Warren County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.

Two weeks ago, Warren County opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-43 loss to Northampton County. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost seven in a row.

Despite the loss, Warren County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kamari Nicholson almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nicholson has scored all season. Townsend was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Warren County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northwest Halifax, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Weldon 48-18.

Northwest Halifax has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Warren County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Warren County strolled past Northwest Halifax in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 61-45. Will Warren County repeat their success, or does Northwest Halifax have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
