The Bethany Bronchos are ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the St. John's Cadets. Bethany took a hard 63-46 fall against St. John's. Bethany's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Bethany's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keziah Lofton, who scored 24 points along with seven steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lofton has scored all season. Zya Vann was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Bethany struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Kyndal Walker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. John's, scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carolae Barton, who scored 14 points.
Bethany's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for St. John's, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Bethany will face off against Morris Catholic at 1:20 p.m. on Monday. Morris Catholic is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 68.5 points per game. St. John's on the road again on Thursday and play against Bishop McNamara at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Bishop McNamara knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully St. John's likes a good challenge.
