Having just played yesterday, the South Mecklenburg Sabres will jump right back in to play the Statesville Greyhounds at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Mecklenburg has 11 straight wins, Statesville has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, South Mecklenburg really took it to Langtree Charter for the full four quarters, racking up a 81-24 victory on the road. That looming 81-24 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for South Mecklenburg yet this season.
South Mecklenburg had a senior duo take command as Peter Moye scored 16 points and Yariel Chudgar scored 14 points along with five steals. The contest was Moye's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Will Rothacker, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Statesville came up short against Hough on Friday and fell 64-53.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mekiaun Davis, who scored nine points along with three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Tucker, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
South Mecklenburg's win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Statesville, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5.
