Carrboro and East Chapel Hill are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carrboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Carrboro will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Vance County, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Jaguars were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Vipers two weeks ago. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 3, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Teagan Fichter made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Carrboro got a massive performance out of Lauren Curry, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Curry has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaida Jakubiak was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Carrboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, East Chapel Hill was able to grind out a solid victory over Hillside on Tuesday, taking the game 9-6.
Like Carrboro, East Chapel Hill also got a great game from a two-way player: Anna Grabowski. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Grabowski was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lauren Steiner was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Esha Kamath, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Carrboro pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for East Chapel Hill, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carrboro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like East Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carrboro might still be hurting after the 24-3 defeat they got from East Chapel Hill in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
