The Warhill Lions had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past New Kent with a 59-53 victory on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Warhill also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Warhill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mary Drakes, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Drakes has scored at least 25% of Warhill's points. Akeylah James was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Warhill now has a winning record of 4-3. As for New Kent, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Warhill will face off against Walsingham Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for New Kent, they will head out on the road to face off against Charlottesville at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Charlottesville's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while New Kent has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
