Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Sandia's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Sandia never let their opponents score on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Capital Jaguars. Considering the Matadors have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Liliana Villanueva made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Villanueva was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Steph Brooks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Iliana Lujan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Sandia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capital only posted an OBP of .000.

Sandia is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Capital, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10-1.

Coming up, Sandia will host Eldorado at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Capital, they will square off against La Cueva at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Jaguars will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven games.
