The Pinnacle Pioneers came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 65-53 victory over Sunnyslope. That's another feather in the cap for Pinnacle, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Pinnacle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mia Singstock, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Singstock continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Norah Moo, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 20 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Sunnyslope saw an underclassman step up: Maggie Luba scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Luba has scored all season. Teagan McIlroy was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Pinnacle has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Sunnyslope, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-8.
Pinnacle and O'Connor will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (O'Connor is ranked 33rd, while Pinnacle is ranked 13th).
