Pelion hasn't had much luck against Ninety Six recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will host the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Pelion made easy work of Mid-Carolina and carried off an 18-8 victory. Considering the Panthers have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Rhaygen Platts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Emma Jackson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Caroline Bridges, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Pelion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Ninety Six extended their postseason success on Thursday against North Central. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Knights. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly three runs.
Ninety Six pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Pelion, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
Pelion couldn't quite finish off Ninety Six in their previous matchup back in April and fell 9-7. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
