Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, Tenn.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to seven, but still managed to hang on and upset
Sevier County (Sevierville, Tenn.) 28-21 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Devaun Swafford touchdown run in the first quarter, the Indians led 21-14 at the half.
Dobyns-Bennett expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. DB's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
Malik Foreman.
The loss snapped the Smoky Bears' 7-game winning streak.
Sevier County's
Jacob Whaley played well. The junior wide receiver caught two touchdowns.
Swafford played well for the Kingsport school in the victory. The senior running back threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns.
The Indians got revenge for last year's 35-28 loss to SC with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Sevier County, which notched a 27-14 victory over Jefferson County in its previous outing.
