Softball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Springfield's Winning Streak

Springfield dropped their record down to 10-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 4-0 to the Auburn Trojans. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Senators were not able to get on the board.

As for Auburn, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Auburn's part, Meena Taylor made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Taylor was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Wheatley, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Springfield will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Decatur Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.8 runs per game on average), something the Senators will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Auburn, they will head out on the road to face off against Olympia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
