The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They put the hurt on Kiowa with a sharp 47-27 victory. The squad ran away with 35 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trey Smith out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Dane Lockhart was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Kiowa, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bethune at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Bethune comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
