Tomball and Klein Oak are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Cougars will welcome the Panthers at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tomball comes in on 11 and Klein Oak on three.
Tomball came out on top against Klein on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Cougars took their contest against the Bearkats 7-2.
Kaylea Wall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Kohen Gonzalez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Fabi Marcano was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Klein Oak faced off against Klein Collins on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tigers. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Klein Oak also got a great performance from Riannah Boulanger as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Boulanger has posted since back in February.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Lee, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addisin Fowler, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Klein Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Tomball's victory bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Klein Oak, their win bumped their record up to 19-6.
Tomball's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Klein Oak, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Tomball continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Tomball's way against Klein Oak in their previous meeting back in March, as Tomball made off with a 7-0 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
