The Foothill Cougars will take on the Inderkum Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Foothill had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Nevada Union on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Miners 14-2.
Peyton Villarreal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Villarreal was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Berens, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sofia Nichols, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, Inderkum came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Miners. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brielle Collins was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaesar Meyers, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Foothill now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Inderkum, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Inderkum struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
