The result came thanks to Corra Liggon's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Smoot, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chatham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.
Meanwhile, Appomattox County posted their closest win since March 17th on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Glenvar.
Bailey Hamilton was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Karly Jenkins, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Appomattox County's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Chatham might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Appomattox County in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
