Danvers had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Winthrop on Monday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 3-0 win. The Falcons not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since August 28th (when they won 3-0).
The final score came out to 25-20, 25-13, 25-13.
Meanwhile, Masconomet Regional got the win against Saugus on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0.
Masconomet Regional was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-17, 25-17.
Masconomet Regional's win came from a few key players Danvers will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elise Clapp, who had seven aces and five digs. Those seven aces gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lidia Benedetto, who had 12 digs and two assists.
Masconomet Regional was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in 12 consecutive matches.
Danvers' victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Masconomet Regional, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's matchup: Danvers has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 13.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Masconomet Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
