In what's become a running theme this season, the St. Thomas Aquinas Trojans gave their fans yet another huge victory on Sunday. They breezed by Central on the road to the tune of 80-50. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-22.
When it comes to explaining why Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malachi Thomas. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Thomas pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mejwad Dixon, who scored nine points.
St. Thomas Aquinas' victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Central, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Thomas Aquinas' road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Peter's Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. St. Peter's Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than St. Thomas Aquinas in New Jersey (St. Peter's Prep is ranked fourth, while St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked 72nd). As for Central, they will head out on the road to challenge West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Side is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
