5A Region 4 recap September 24, 2013
American Fork was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A Region 4. The Cavemen beat Westlake 42-0 earlier in the week.
Pleasant Grove added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lehi, 37-34. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
The Pioneers' dynamic duo of Derek Beeston and Ryan Absher proved to be unstoppable against Pleasant Grove, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Beeston threw for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns and Absher had 140 yards receiving. Austin Whetzel helped Lehi's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 129 yards.
Lehi's dynamic duo of Beeston and Absher proved tough for Les Hamilton's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Jade Luker was a key player and the best on defense this week as American Fork beat the Thunder. The 5-foot-10 senior.
TJ Wind was a force in the backfield as the Vikings defeated David Hastings' team.
Beeston put up the best numbers in passing as the Pioneers lost to Pleasant Grove.
Wind was the best running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 245 yards as the Vikings lost to the Vikings.
Absher was the best receiver in 5A Region 4 this week as the Pioneers lost to Pleasant Grove.
5-foot-10 quarterback Jacen Condie of Aaron Behm's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,322. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Spencer Romney. The Pleasant Grove star has 18 catches for 539 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Lone Peak and the Cavemen. The Knights comes into the matchup ranked 18th in the state, while American Fork ranks eighth.
The Vikings' offense has scored 197 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Riverton has allowed only 76 on the year.
The league will see a high scoring game when Pleasant Grove and the Silverwolves face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vikings comes in having scored 197 this season, while Riverton has scored 193. Pleasant Grove scored 37 points last week as it bested Lehi.
Westlake lost to the Cavemen 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
