Last Saturday, John Champe was the victim of a rough 72-47 defeat at the hands of Norview. While losing is never fun, John Champe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Norview is ranked 19th).
Meanwhile, Independence didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Freedom on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 40-34 win.
Among those leading the charge was Jordan Ratliff, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Ian Grimes, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
John Champe's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Independence, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
John Champe was able to grind out a solid win over Independence in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, winning 69-58. Will John Champe repeat their success, or does Independence have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
