Fort Calhoun has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Arlington Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fort Calhoun posted their biggest win since December 19, 2023 on Monday. They put the hurt on Douglas County West with a sharp 68-44 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Fort Calhoun has posted against Douglas County West since December 8, 2017.
Fort Calhoun got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Raeann Massey out in front who scored 17 points along with nine blocks. Massey is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Maelie Nelson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Arlington scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They breezed by Louisville at home to the tune of 65-30. Given Arlington's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Louisville is ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Calhoun pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for Arlington, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Things could have been worse for Fort Calhoun, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-46 loss to Arlington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Fort Calhoun avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
