2A-1 Region II District 6 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Pottsboro extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week by beating Van Alstyne, 54-21. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Cardinals.
Commerce moved up to 377 from 408 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to make move up by topping Howe 46-0.
Daxx Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 231 yards as Caddo Mills topped the Panthers. Teammate Dakota Monroe added to the ground attack by rushing for 85 yards.
Lawler was the best wideout in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week as Matt Poe's team defeated Van Alstyne. Lawler racked up four receptions for 136 yards. Dallas Sewell helped Pottsboro's passing attack out by catching three balls for 67 yards.
Tanner Frye provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cardinals bested Mikeal Miller's team. He completed 12 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 35 yards.
Sam Wells put up the best numbers through the air as Commerce beat the Bulldogs. He finished with 13 completions for 217 yards and four touchdowns. Wells' favorite target this week was Bran Kelley, who caught three passes for 105 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Ryan Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1580. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, the Foxes' Hill has rushed for 1212 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 37 catches for 968 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Pottsboro takes on second place Sunnyvale. Pottsboro defeated the Panthers last week, while Sunnyvale.
The Cardinals' Sewell needs only 32 receiving yards against John Settle's team to crack 1,000 for the season.
