Michigan City is 0-10 against Crown Point since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wolves will take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wolves on Friday. Michigan City put the hurt on Hammond Central with a sharp 14-5 win.
Keegan Cowgill made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Michigan City is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-16 otherwise. Cowgill was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaire McKinney, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Michigan City is 2-1 when McKinney posts three or more hits, but 5-16 otherwise. Another player making a difference was AJ Galindo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Michigan City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Crown Point got the win against Morgan Township on Friday by a conclusive 21-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Michigan City, Crown Point also got a great game from a two-way player: Logan Cotton. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Cotton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
In other pitching news, Riley Ackerman looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Billy Chidsey was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mick Vagner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Crown Point is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Michigan City, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-17.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Michigan City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crown Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Michigan City might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Crown Point in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
