Leon has gone a perfect 10-0 against Godby recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Leon Lions take on Godby Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Leon's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Godby's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Leon's offense. They came up short against Lincoln on Tuesday, falling 8-0. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Godby never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Jefferson County on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Tigers. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Edwin Ramirez made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Godby: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Godby got a massive performance out of Amari Jones, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Jones has posted since back in February. Jaylen Roque was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Godby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
Leon's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Godby, their record is now 3-9.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Leon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Godby struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leon was able to grind out a solid victory over Godby in their previous matchup back in February, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leon since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
