Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.) took an early lead against
Gila Ridge (Yuma, Ariz.) and held on for a 27-6 victory on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Pumas put up three points. Perry scored on a field goal.
After taking the lead on a field goal in the first quarter, PHS led 20-0 at the half.
The Gilbert school expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. The Pumas' lone score in the quarter came on an
Austin Nightingale touchdown pass to
Ben Terhark.
Gila Ridge's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by
Brandon Kehl in the fourth quarter.
When the two teams played each other last season, Perry came away with a 50-16 victory.
In a non-conference game next week Gila Ridge (0-3) takes on Westwood, and Perry (2-1) will go up against Mountain View also in a non-conference game.
