The Bellaire Big Reds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 76-54 defeat at the hands of Union Local. While losing is never fun, Bellaire can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while Union Local is ranked 216th).
Mac Pettigrew and Riley Robbins certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Pettigrew scored 18 points along with two steals, while Robbins scored eight points. Pettigrew hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games.
Union Local's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Easton Ditzler led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ditzler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gannon Kerns, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Bellaire has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Union Local, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Bellaire won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Shadyside at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. As for Union Local, they will be playing at home against Cambridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cambridge is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
