The Chandler Prep Titans will face off against the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chandler Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Chandler Prep's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against San Carlos as they made off with a 24-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Colman Smith and Emet Yates were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Yates tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Smith scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Yates scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Aidan Allen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Hong, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Isaac Swanson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, St. John Paul II Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 16-6 to Wickenburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lions have suffered since March 11th.
Francisco Vasquez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases. Jonathan Martinez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Chandler Prep's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chandler Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. John Paul II Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
