The East Tech Scarabs entered their tilt with the Padua Franciscan Bruins with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. East Tech came out on top against Padua Franciscan by a score of 56-47 on Saturday. The score was all tied up 23-23 at the break, but East Tech was the better team in the second half.
East Tech's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keshawn Ellington, who scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Lawrence, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Padua Franciscan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Riley Cervenka. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Cervenka scored a full 40.4% of Padua Franciscan's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gio Roman, who scored 8 points along with 12 rebounds.
East Tech's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Padua Franciscan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
East Tech will be playing in front of their home fans against Rhodes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rhodes will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 246th, while East Tech is ranked 92nd). As for Padua Franciscan, they will head out on the road to face off against Bedford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
