The James River Midlothian Rapids will venture away from home to challenge the Clover Hill Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James River Midlothian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
While James River Midlothian's victory against Albemarle wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rapids skirted past the Patriots 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Rapids sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The team relied heavily on Landon Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Conner Sprouse, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Clover Hill came out on top against Cosby on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Cavaliers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Titans. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.
Keller Williams looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Carson Hupp was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. James Nigriny was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
James River Midlothian pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clover Hill, their record is now 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. James River Midlothian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clover Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
James River Midlothian couldn't quite finish off Clover Hill in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Rapids avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
