The Midland Trail Patriots will head out to square off against the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Midland Trail and Nicholas County, and Nicholas County kept the tradition alive. Midland Trail fell 12-8 to Nicholas County on Wednesday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kolton Eades was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Greg Cramer, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodrow Wilson). They never let Bluefield get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Flying Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Parker Williams and Tyler Wilhite were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Williams tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wilhite struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At the plate, Williams went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double, while Wilhite scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Those RBI were Williams' first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Gallaher, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Woodrow Wilson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Woodrow Wilson and bumps their season record up to 3-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Midland Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Midland Trail might still be hurting after the 12-5 defeat they got from Woodrow Wilson in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Midland Trail avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
