ALA - Ironwood extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-16. They came up short against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers, falling 14-3. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 11-6.
Dominic Armendariz was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Benjamin Franklin, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.
On Benjamin Franklin's side, Cruz Hansen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Hansen has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jovanni Sanchez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jett Garman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, ALA - Ironwood will take on Gilbert Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Benjamin Franklin, they will face off against Chandler Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
