If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Weequahic. They will challenge Newark Collegiate Academy on the road at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Weequahic don't have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.
Weequahic might be getting used to good results now that the team have five wins in a row. They took their match against Verona last Friday 21-9. Weequahic had a senior duo take command as Charles Bruton rushed for 112 yards and 1 touchdown and Tyler Phillips's caught passes for 106 yards and picked up 31 yards on the ground. In fact, with ten tackles Desuah was a force on both sides of the ball.
Meanwhile, after flying high against Glen Ridge two weeks ago, Newark Collegiate Academy came back down to earth. Newark Collegiate Academy ended up on the wrong side of a painful 16-43 walloping at Cedar Grove's hands. Newark Collegiate Academy were down by 16-36 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Weequahic's victory lifted them to 5-0 while Newark Collegiate Academy's loss dropped them down to 3-2. In Weequahic's win, senior Charles Bruton rushed for 112 yards and 1 touchdown and senior Tyler Phillips caught passes for 106 yards and picked up 31 yards on the ground. We'll see if Newark Collegiate Academy have a strategy for dealing with them or if they lead their team to another successful outing.
