The Union County Patriots fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Washburn Pirates on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Pirates 66-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Washburn found their leader in underclassman Ebany Hill, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. Hill is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Hannah Williams was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Union County's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Washburn, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union County will take on Clinton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Washburn, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against White Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. White Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
