Softball Game Preview: Catholic Central Cougars vs. Thornapple Kellogg Trojans

The Catholic Central Cougars will square off against the Thornapple Kellogg Trojans at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Catholic Central will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Catholic Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Christian 23-8 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

M Schaendorf was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was R Lyons, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Catholic Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Thornapple Kellogg made sure to put some runs up on the board against West Catholic on Monday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Falcons. The Trojans are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the third matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Thornapple Kellogg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Catholic Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Everything went Catholic Central's way against Thornapple Kellogg when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Catholic Central made off with a 14-4 victory. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
