Basketball Game Preview: Quinter Bulldogs vs. Hill City Ringnecks

Quinter and Hill City are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another on Tuesday. Quinter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Hill City likes a good challenge.

Two weeks ago, Quinter strolled past Greeley County with points to spare, taking the game 56-40. The 56-point effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Bryn Gillespie continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 11 on her way to 23 points along with seven assists and six boards. She has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Braelyn Blackwill was another key player, going 6 for 13 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Quinter was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hill City was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Hoxie and fell 70-22.

Despite the defeat, Hill City saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jenna Berland posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Berland. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Mauck, who had ten points and six rebounds.

Quinter's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Hill City, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for Quinter against Hill City when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 65-16 victory. In that matchup, Quinter amassed a halftime lead of 47-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
