The Canton Little Giants came tearing into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 55-48 win over Metamora. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Metamora is ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allison Wheeler, who scored 18 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wheeler has scored at least 25% of Canton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Demler, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Canton is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Metamora, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Canton will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washington at 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Metamora will finish 2023 at home by hosting Guilford at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
