The biggest upset of the week belonged to Merkel, who took down 226th ranked Merkel, 34-20. Josh Moylan threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 70 yards in the win.
Clyde's Ty Spears rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A-1 Region I District 4 this season in his game against Dublin last week. Spears ran for 56 yards on the play and finished with 155 on the day as his team beat the Lions.
Clyde's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Clint Lesley threw for 256 and five touchdowns and Mason Burson had 101 yards receiving. Jon Seabourn helped Clyde's passing attack out by catching six balls for 69 yards.
Rocky Smart's team's Lesley and Seabourn have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Lesley has thrown for 1358 yards this season, while Seabourn, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 38 catches for 588 yards. Eastland's Brandon Allen leads the league in rushing yards with 636.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Mavericks take on Dublin. Eastland's offense has recorded 228 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Dwayne Ross' team has permitted only 116 on the year.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region I District 4 this week will be when the Lions take on Brian Hulett's team. At the moment, Dublin is in fourth, while the Mavericks are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Lions take on Eastland. Dublin has allowed 116 points this season, while the Mavericks have given up 136. The Lions allowed 47 points last week as they lost to the Bulldogs.
Eastland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Badgers, 34-20. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Mavericks.
