The Conotton Valley Rockets are taking a road trip to square off against the Shadyside Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Conotton Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Conotton Valley's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Ridgewood hitters got past them. The Rockets came up short against the Generals on Saturday, falling 14-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Generals: they've now lost five in a row.
Conotton Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooks Bower, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Zack Putnam, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shadyside, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They never let Bishop Rosecrans get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Thursday.
Ryan Collins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aaron Pacifico was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Cole Micker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Conotton Valley's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Shadyside, their record is now 13-10.
Shadyside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Conotton Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. It's a different story for Shadyside, though, as they've only averaged .318. Will they be able to contain Conotton Valley's hitters?
Conotton Valley came up short against Shadyside in their previous matchup back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
