The Horizon Huskies are taking a road trip to challenge the Casteel Colts at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Horizon is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
In Monday's Canine Competition, Horizon came out on top. They had just enough and edged out Campo Verde 6-5. While the Huskies didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jarrett Elco looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Tomey, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kanon Faseler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Horizon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Casteel made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mountain Ridge on Monday. Casteel was the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over Mountain Ridge. Considering the Colts have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Connor Russell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Casteel is undefeated when Russell posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Ryne Barker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Casteel has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. Horizon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Horizon might still be hurting after the 15-4 loss they got from Casteel when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Horizon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
