In what's become a running theme this season, the Concord Academy Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past Gaston Christian 82-20 at home. The victory was familiar territory for Concord Academy who now have seven in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Concord Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justice Alexander, who scored 20 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Alexander posted eight or more assists. Taylor Smith was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six assists and six steals.
Despite the loss, Gaston Christian saw an underclassman step up: Happy Arune scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 60% of Gaston Christian's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gianna Mingo, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Gaston Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord Academy only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Concord Academy pushed their record up to 16-2 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38.79 points. As for Gaston Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Concord Academy will be playing at home against Northside Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gaston Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against SouthLake Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. SouthLake Christian Academy is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
