Basketball Recap: NorthPoint Christian Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Providence Classical last Tuesday, NorthPoint Christian Academy came back down to earth. The NorthPoint Christian Academy NightHawks came up short against the Lee Park Prep Knights on Thursday, falling 65-40. The NightHawks have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, NorthPoint Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabe Spann went 6-for-15 to rack up 19 points. That was a full 47.5% of NorthPoint Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jack Alvis was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Lee Park Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaac Watkins, who went 9-for-14 on his way to 20 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Watkins' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Griffin, who went 6-for-8 en route to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.

NorthPoint Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Lee Park Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. NorthPoint Christian Academy will be playing at home against Covenant Classical at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. NorthPoint Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season. As for Lee Park Prep, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lee Park Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
