For the first time this season, Spring Creek will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will square off against the Dayton Dust Devils at 3:00 p.m. Spring Creek will be strutting in after a win while Dayton will be coming in after a loss.
Spring Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Sparks with a sharp 18-2 victory on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Thor Welch, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Chase Marrott, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Spring Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Dayton unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Wooster by a score of 7-5.
Dayton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Frank, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Frank has posted since back in March of 2024. Ivor Evans was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Spring Creek has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Spring Creek has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dayton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Spring Creek's way against Dayton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Spring Creek made off with a 16-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Creek since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
