The Arapahoe Warriors couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were the victim of a rough 49-23 defeat at the hands of Overton on Thursday. Arapahoe has struggled against Overton recently, as their match on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Arapahoe's loss came despite strong showings from Cadence Carpenter and Berkley Warner. Carpenter scored 4 points along with 9 rebounds, while Warner scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Even though they lost, Arapahoe were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overton only pulled down 32.
Overton had a senior duo take command as Natalie Wood dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds and Jolee Ryan dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gracyn Luther, who scored 5 points along with 5 steals.
Arapahoe's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Overton, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Arapahoe will head out on the road to face off against Lawrence-Nelson on Saturday. Hopefully Lawrence-Nelson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. Overton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Loomis at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st.
