AAAA Region 5 recap November 13, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 5 this week, Sandy Creek beat Columbus 56-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Sandy Creek took down the Blue Devils 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Delvin Weems ran for 75 yards in the win.
Alexander's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Baylor Whitfield threw for 77 and 3 touchdowns and Isaac Zico had 70 yards receiving. On the ground Mikell Lands-Davis contributed 136 yards. Josh Hennesy helped Alexander's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
The Cougars' dynamic duo of Whitfield and Zico proved tough for Fayette County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hennesy helped Alexander's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
Wil Garrett was a passing and rushing force as Carrollton bested LaGrange. He completed 7 passes for 94 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 66 yards. Garrett's favorite target this week was Andrew Turner, who caught 4 passes for 50 yards.
He was 5-8 with 0 interceptions.
Chip Walker's team's Cole Garvin and Demarre Kitt led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Garvin has thrown for 1,637 yards this season, while Kitt has 45 catches for 744 yards. Alexander's Lands-Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 1,759.
Matt Combs' team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,232 from 2,347. The advance stemmed from a 44-0 victory over the Tigers last week.
