The Natalia Mustangs suffered their biggest defeat since December 29, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 68-44 defeat at the hands of Lytle. While losing is never fun, Natalia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1249th, while Lytle is ranked 357th).
Yahdi Lujan and Anaya Jones certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Lujan scored 22 points, while Jones scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 50% of Natalia's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Calyssa Sevier, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds for Lytle. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Garcia, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Natalia has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-19 record this season. As for Lytle, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Natalia will take on Crystal City at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lytle, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cotulla at 6:15 p.m. Cotulla is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses.
