Waukesha South is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Waukesha West.
Cooper Wiltz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Waukesha South saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonas Heibler, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Michael Petfalski was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Catholic Memorial came into Friday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Milwaukee Reagan on Friday.
Adam Schaefer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Vasquez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Freschi, who got three hits from his three at bats.
Waukesha South's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Catholic Memorial, their record now sits at 7-12.
Waukesha South couldn't quite get it done against Catholic Memorial when the teams last played back in April as they fell 9-4. Can the Blackshirts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
