The Gladewater Bears will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Jefferson Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Gladewater: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Jefferson has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Even though Sabine scored an imposing 42 points on Friday, Gladewater still came out on top. Gladewater secured a 48-42 W over Sabine. The victory was just what Gladewater needed coming off of a 41-21 defeat in their prior game.
Gladewater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carsin Cooper led the charge by rushing for 239 yards and a touchdown while picking up 14.1 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Brayson Woods, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, everything went Jefferson's way against Atlanta on Friday as Jefferson made off with a 49-29 victory. The result was nothing new for Jefferson, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Kamran Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tihmyus Taylor, who threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Gladewater to 1-6 and Jefferson to 5-1.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Gladewater has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been even better at 293 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Gladewater came up short against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 42-35. Will Gladewater have more luck at home instead of on the road?
