Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Chesnee Eagles, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were outmatched by Gray Collegiate Academy at home and fell 62-14. While losing is never fun, Chesnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Gray Collegiate Academy is ranked 14th).
Leading Gray Collegiate Academy to victory were Bj Montgomery and Dre'von Dopson. Montgomery rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, while Dopson threw for 79 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Caleb Ford was another key contributor, rushing for 37 yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Gray Collegiate Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 6.5 sacks. In that department, Kaine Williams was the leader with two sacks.
Chesnee has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.
Chesnee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gray Collegiate Academy will square off against Strom Thurmond at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Strom Thurmond is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
