It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but the Las Animas Trojans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Crowley County 36-34. The win was just what Las Animas needed coming off of a 51-8 defeat in their prior game.
Las Animas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Netherton out in front who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Netherton is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Emma Russell was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Crowley County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Animas will square off against Holly at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holly will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Las Animas is ranked 100th). As for Crowley County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoehne will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
